Kiel´s coach Noka Serdarusic was right when he said that he can´t really enjoy the victoy in Ciudad Real (29:27). He was cautious because there is always the possibility of performing badly and even worse as the rival did in the first game. And unfortunately for the German champions, the roles were inversed on Sunday.
Despite of an incredible atmosphere created by more than 10.000 spectators, THW was absolutely unrecognisable, while the opponent showed their best game in Champions League in the whole season. The hosts were not able to stop in the defence a phenomenal Olafur Stefansson (12 goals) and a fantastic Jonas Källman (11 goals). In attack, with Nikola in almost man-marking, the home squad commited suicide, lacking of inspiration in attack, making easy technical faults, shoting poorly, missing even fastbreaks in front of a very big in both sense goalkeeper Arpad Sterbik.
The punishment arrived in double dose: insuccess in own hall and the insupportable moment to see the visitors celebrating the most precious cup in your own "living room". That´s just beyond all bearing! But if there is a medicine to ease a bit the pain of broken hearts in sports, this ca be only the victory and this is exactly what the "Kielers" need in the next days.
