06.01.09 - Kiel and Ciudad Real face to face again
The finalists of the last edition of the Champions League, Ciudad Real and THW Kiel, will meet today, at 18 o´clock in the semifinal of the Champions Trophy in Veszprem, Hungary. In the other semifinal, MKB Veszprem will play HSG Nordhorn at four.
Four months after the Zebras lost on home soil the second leg of the Champions League final (25:31) and together with it the chance to defend their title, the best teams in the world are again opponents. The German Champions got a wild card to take part to the event in Hungary, while the other three teams qualified after they won the European Clubs Competitions they participated. Ciudad Real are the title holder in Champions League, Nordhorn won the EHF Cup and Veszprem got the Cup Winners Cup.
"It’s always exciting to meet the winners of the European competitions and I expect good matches. We will see how it goes. We will, of course, do our best, but we have to wait and see", said Kiel´s coach, Alfred Gislason for www.ehfcl.com. He can´t count on Niko, who is in recovery after his elbow injury, and on Christian Zeitz, suspended two rounds after the incidents in the second leg of the final.
In the same situation is Uros Zorman, the playmaker of the Spanish squad. Besides, Alberto EntrerrÃos, Jerome Fernandez and Rolando UrÃos are out with health problems and probably Ales Pajovic and Chema RodrÃguez will miss the competition, being not fully fit after the convalescence. "It was difficult to prepare for the event. Eight players took part at the Olympic Games and now everyone is in a different physically condition. Some have injuries too. (...) I don’t like to make predictions, but I think Veszprém – playing at home – will reach the final. We too, but first we have to play against Kiel, the title holders", told Ciudad Real´s coach, Talant Dujshebaev for the same website. We will see tomorrow is his prediction comes true...
