06.01.09 - THW Kiel captures the first place

At last number1! The Zebras beat TV Großwallstadt, 37:29, in a match counting for the 5th round of the Bundesliga. Kiel is on the top of the table at least until Saturday, when Göppingen and Flensburg will play their games.

The dispute was not so easy to win as it seems. Kiel leaded with 2 goals in the first 15 minutes, but their performance was not convincing. More than this, Großwallstadt counted on a very good performance of Mattias Andersson, the former Kieler who left the German Champions at the end of the last season. Within 4 minutes before the break, Kiel transformed a 13:12 into a 16:12, but some easy missed chances got back the visitors into the game: 16:15/28. The last two minutes belonged to the hosts, Jicha and Kavticnik (2) gave them a three goals lead after 30 minutes; 19:16.
In the second half, the squad coached by Alfred Gislason saw itself equalised after 37 minutes (21:21) and didn´t succeed to get a decisive margin until the last 15 minutes. In those moments, Andreas Palicka replaced Omeyer in goal and did very well, exactly like Kavticnik (8 goals) and Kim Andersson (7). From 26:25/46. Kiel made a 30:25/53. and in the end won with eight goals, 37:29.
