Impossible is nothing and nobody is invincible on home soil that´s what Kiel proved this afteroon. The team who made THW and his fans to cry so often was beaten in its own hall. Because Barcelona existed THW lost the Champions League trophy in 2000, didn´t reach the final of the same competition one year later and the semifinal four years later. But now all this is just history. And the present taste so sweet!
After a first equlibrated quarter of hour, the hosts, who counted on a very aggressive and efficient defence, were in lead with 2 goals for the very first time (9:7) and extended their lead to 3 goals (11:8/18.). With two goals scored by Nikola and one by Kavticnik, Kiel equalised, 11:11, within 7 minutes to go. The equilibrium dominated until the end of the first half: 15:15.
A star light up in the second half, one who let Barcelona blind: Thierry Omeyer, with 21/2 saves. The Catalonians were in lead for the last time in the 38th minute, 18:16. Helped by the incredible saves of the French goalie, the guests scored six times in a row for 22:18 within 16 Minutes to go. Unfortunately for Niko´s team, Lund had to give up because of an ijury and Niko himself got a two minutes penalty who brought Barcelona back in the game. The Spaniards needed three minutes to score four consecutive goals and to made it even: 22:22.
It was the moment when Alfred Gislason took a time-out and his team got back on the field and cotrolled the game. Omeyer continued to save ball after ball (unbeatable even from 7 meter line: 0/3!) and within 4 minutes to go his squad has a comfortable margin of its side: 29:23. The maximum what Nagy and his teammates could do was to came closer to 4 goals, a difference conserved in the end.
