07.01.09 - Champions Trophy: Zebras got the third place

Beating HSG Nordhorn 36:30, THW Kiel assured themselves the third place by the Champions Trophy in Veszprem. The competition was won by Ciudad Real, who defeated in the last quater of hour the hosts from MKB Veszprem, 32:28.


The squad coached by Alfred Gislason dominated from the very beginning the dispute against the EHF Cup title holder, even if they didn´t count from the start on Stefan Lövgren and Marcus Ahlm. With a great Titi Omeyer (18 saves in 39 minutes) and a very effective Kim Andersson (10 goals from 13 shots), the German Champions leaded with 8 goals already after 17 minutes, 13:8. In the last minutes of the first half, Nordhorn succeeded to came closer and to go into the dressing room with only a five goals deficit: 13:18.
Myrhol (11 goals) and his colleagues started better in the second half and after 34 minutes Kiel had only a thin margin of 2 goals, 19:17. Stefan Lövgren came in on the field and helped his team to put a considerable distance toward the opponent. From 21:19 (37.), THW made a 26:19 (42.) and the game was closed. In the end, the favourites won with 36:30 and will come back home richer with 10.000 euro, the prize for the third place.
